Selling With Steiffgal

Selling With Steiffgal
Updated September 16, 2024

Thank you for your interest in consigning your vintage Steiff treasures with me. I provide soup-to-nuts deaccessioning services, and routinely rehome important Steiff collections ranging from 25 to 500+ items. Here is everything you need to know about the process and how it works.

I offer several options for rehoming your items. These include:

*Direct, discreet sales to private clients

*Exclusive placements at invitation only collector's sales events

*Listings on My SteiffLife

*Start to finish auction house selection, logistics, and management

*Other online options

Most collections require a mix of these tactics to maximize the number of people reached as well as to make the most money possible. I will work with you to determine the best channel/s for moving your items along based on the size, scope, era, value, and quality of the collection. This is ALWAYS done on a case by case basis, as no two collections are ever the same.

Here's a general overview on how consignment works:

1. We have a phone, Zoom, or email conversation about what you have to sell and your expectations.

2. Once we have agreed on what will be consigned, you send me the items.

3. Once I have the items in hand, I make a recommendation on selling strategy and price.

4. For items placed on the My SteiffLife gallery, I will clean, photograph, and catalog the items for listing, then market those items through blog posts, promotions, and Facebook.

5. I handle all shipping logistics and buyer transactions and interactions.

6. If something does not sell on the My SteiffLife Gallery, I can take down the item and send it back to you at any time. Any return shipping costs will be paid by the consignor.

7. Consigned items that have been listed for at least 21 days on the My Steifflife Gallery will be included in the store's quarterly three day long FLASH SALES; these usually offer 20-35% off items depending on the time of year and event.

8. After three months, if consigned items listed on the My Steifflife Gallery have not sold, they will be reduced 50% and listed on the website under the "Steiffgal's Seconds" tab.

9. After three months on 50% reduction, the consignor's items will be grouped and sold on eBay with an opening bid of $0.99.

10. Items of exceptional value ($2,500+) or size (over 60 cm, studio pieces) are handled on a case by case basis.

11. If consignors send items, and they are not judged of sufficient quality for rehoming after arrival, the consignor agrees to accept full responsibility for the cost of return shipping and insurance to the value specified by the consignor.

12. The consignment fee is 35% of the item's selling price regardless of channel.  I send you your portion of the item's selling price immediately upon receipt of funds from the buyer, either by Pay Pal or a check.

Here are the non-negotiable requirements for each consignment item:

*At least 30 years old

*In very good or better condition

*"Of interest" i.e., is rare, a sample, or one of a kind; and/or has universal appeal
